What is the hardest part of GCSE English for Birmingham students?

It matters most at the top of the grade range. The content overlaps, but the papers differ in structure: AQA and Edexcel set different unseen-text tasks and weight the writing questions differently, and the set texts vary by school. A tutor matched to the wrong board wastes lessons on the wrong question style. How can I tell which parts of GCSE English my child is losing marks on?
Ask to see a recent marked paper and look at where the marks fall away. Thin marks on the comparison question point to essay structure. Marks lost on the poetry question usually mean the analysis is describing rather than interpreting. Low AO5 and AO6 on Language Paper 1 point to writing craft under timing. A tutor reads that pattern in the first session and targets the weakest of the three first.
